BCH SURVEY AVAILABLE

The UN Environment Programme is currently implementing the “UNEP-GEF Project for Sustainable Capacity Building for Effective Participation in the BCH (BCH III)”, which aims to ensure (i) that participating countries have established sustainable national procedures to gather information to put on the BCH, and (ii) that they have the expertise to use, access and participate efficiently to the BCH. This will ultimately improve countries’ compliance to the Protocol while ensuring a safer use and handling of LMOs for enhanced global conservation of biodiversity.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it has become necessary for us to develop and implement strategies to assist countries in meeting their BCH obligations under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and the Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress.

In this connection, the project would like to invite the national focal points of the Cartagena Protocol and/or the Biosafety Clearing House, and any other relevant persons identified by the national focal points, to participate in a survey intended to collect information on: a) immediate relevant BCH and biosafety needs to guide and finetune the BCH III project capacity building interventions in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic; and b) implementation of BCH and biosafety measures in general. Your responses will greatly assist us in determining what can be instituted at the national, regional and global levels to generally enhance the knowledge, awareness, participation and sustainability of the BCH and biosafety over the longer term.

The survey can be accessed online in English by clicking on the following link:

We look forward to, and greatly appreciate your participation. Please note that deadline date for the submission of your responses is Friday 17 July 2020.
